Redaction QC Checklist

Every failure mode we've documented, in the order they tend to occur. Complete this checklist for every production containing redactions. A single unchecked failure is grounds to stop the production.

The one that keeps us up at night "We accidentally removed every redaction in the production set." Take a breath. Now open Section 3, item 3.4, and start there. It's usually a text-layer problem, not a redaction-layer problem.

Section 1 · Reviewer-Level QC

1.1 · Every redaction has a reason code (Privilege / Work Product / Confidentiality / PII / Trade Secret). Filter for null reason on redacted docs; result must be zero.

1.2 · Every redaction has a reviewing attorney assignment. Not just the coder — the attorney who signed off.

1.3 · Reason codes are consistent across the same document family. If a parent is Privilege, attachments do not become Confidentiality without explanation.

1.4 · No "in progress" redactions. Filter for QC status ≠ "complete" on redacted docs; result must be zero.

Section 2 · Image-Level QC

2.1 · Redactions are solid black or opaque colored blocks. No translucent highlights. Sample 20 redacted images visually.

2.2 · Redactions cover the intended content completely. Small text at box edges is not visible. Zoom to 200% on sample redactions.

2.3 · No metadata leakage in headers/footers. If content is redacted in the body, verify a copy doesn't appear in a running header, footnote, or tracked change.

2.4 · Redaction legend applied (e.g. "REDACTED — Privilege") if required by protocol.

2.5 · Confidentiality legend applied to the whole page when the doc is designated confidential.

Section 6 · Post-Ship Verification

6.1 · Redaction count in load file equals reviewer-flagged count. Any delta is investigated before ship.

6.2 · Test load into a clean workspace — verify all redacted docs render as redacted and text search does not find the redacted content.

6.3 · Random re-check sample — after production package is assembled and encrypted, decrypt on a separate workstation and re-run the item 3.2 keyword tests.

Section 7 · Sign-off

All sections above are complete. If any item is unchecked or failed, the production is HELD and returned to the responsible team.

PRODUCTION IS HELD. Check this box only if a failure was found. Route to the Delphoria advisor and producing counsel immediately.
